Gonzales is an attorney, District 3A parent, and neighbor. His pro bono legal work has served veterans, immigrants, and survivors of domestic violence. He has also served as a volunteer board member with Midtown-Metro.

About the board transition

Chicago voters elected ten board members in 2024. Under Illinois law, the 2026 general election fills the remaining elected subdistrict seats and elects a board president at large. Beginning January 15, 2027, each of the twenty subdistricts is represented by an elected member.
